“Aníbal y el mundo” (Hannibal and the World) is the title of the new short (25 minutes long) directed by Pablo Llorca, which has just been finished. The film narrates one day in the life of Hannibal, who leaves home on a bicycle and ends up with a pencil after a series of unfortunate exchanges. The day, however, is not over yet for Hannibal, and something unexpected will be waiting for him. Made with the participation of pupils in the Theatre Class at the Instituto Juan de la Cierva, the short stars Jorge Reyes and Paula Martín, and features a cast including Javier Fernández, Fabián Saeteros, Chiqui Abril, Fernando Ustárroz and Fernando Carbonell.

“Aníbal y el mundo” has been released on a new DVD edition, together with “Una historia europea”, both with English subtitles. “Una historia europea” (A European Story) is a forty minute long documentary recorded in 1994 by Pablo Llorca and assisted by Salvador García Ruiz. The film presents the oral testimony of Jacinto Vaello Hahn, whose voice narrates the story of his family –Russians of German descent– and the history of a good deal of the last century: the Russian Revolution, Berlin between the wars, the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War and the German concentration camps, the Russian gulag and Pinochet’s coup d’etat. In addition to offering a direct, unadorned account of some amazing occurrences, the film ends up being a reflection upon contemporary political vicissitudes, with the drama of exile as a permanent backdrop.

“Construyendo voces” (Constructing Voices) is the title of an ambitious programme organized by the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y León), which during the year 2008-2009 will offer a broad panorama of recent Spanish cinema. The season endeavours to show the complete film works of representative Spanish directors (Salvador García Ruiz, Cesc Gay and Isabel Coixet are among the group of nine directors). Pablo Llorca, who will present a broad retrospective of his work, including five feature films and four shorts, will launch the programme on the 1st of October.

The Espai de Art Contemporani de Castelló (EACC) invited the director to attend and introduce the screening of his film “Uno de los dos no puede estar equivocado” (One of Us Cannot be Wrong) at this art venue.

Pablo llorca’s next film now has a title: “El mundo que fue y el que es” (The World that was and the World that is). It narrates, in four different periods (from the 40’s to the present day), the story of several communist activists incarcerated in a Spanish prison. The film seeks to explore the condition and the part played by the communists in Post-war Spain and the role of communism today. Shooting is scheduled to start at the beginning of summer 2009.

“Aníbal y el mundo” ha aparecido en una edición nueva en dvd, junto a “Una historia europea”, ambas con subtítulos en inglés. “Una historia europea” es un documental de cuarenta minutos, grabado en 1994 por Pablo Llorca, con la ayuda de Salvador García Ruiz, el cual registra el testimonio oral de Jacinto Vaello Hahn, quien narra la historia de su familia, rusos de origen alemán, la cual recorre buena parte del siglo pasado: la revolución rusa, el Berlín de entreguerras, la Guerra civil española, la segunda guerra mundial y los campos de concentración alemanes, el gulag ruso y el golpe de estado de Pinochet. Además de la simple narración de unas peripecias fascinantes, la película acaba siendo una reflexión sobre los avatares políticos contemporáneos, con el drama del exilio perpetuo como eje.

“Construyendo voces” es el título del ambicioso programa organizado por el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC), que ofrecerá a lo largo del curso 2008-2009 un panorama amplio del cine español actual. El ciclo trata de mostrar la obra completa de un conjunto de directores representativos del mismo (Salvador García Ruiz, Cesc Gay o Isabel Coixet en un conjunto de nueve). El programa será inaugurado el 1 de octubre por Pablo Llorca, del cual se presenta una amplia retrospectiva, con cinco largos y cuatro cortos.

El próximo largometraje de ficción de Pablo Llorca ya tiene título: “El mundo que fue y el que es”. Narra, a lo largo de cuatro tiempos diferentes (desde los años 40 a la actualidad), la historia de varios militantes comunistas presos en una cárcel española. La película trata de ser una reflexión sobre la condición y el papel de los comunistas en la España de la posguerra y el rol del comunismo en la actualidad. El rodaje está previsto que comience en verano de 2009.
